Microchips are tiny devices that provide a permanent and unalterable identifier for your dog or cat. We strongly recommend microchip implantation for every dog and cat. Microchips are safe and inexpensive, and they dramatically increase the chances of being reunited with your pet in the unfortunate event they are lost.
At Alberta Veterinary Care, we can microchip your dog or cat during their annual exam. It is a simple procedure similar to a vaccination, and no anesthesia is required. Whether your pet was rescued from a shelter or adopted from another owner, we can quickly search the database to see if a chip has already been implanted. The identifier found in the device will allow you to be contacted as soon as possible so that your pet can return home safely.
Many chip manufacturers also have support services that will proactively search for pets as soon as they are reported missing. These services are available 24/7.
