Alberta Veterinary Care is equipped with state-of-the-art surgical suites and highly trained veterinarians who perform a wide range of general surgical procedures. Our modern surgical suite is equipped with the latest in patient monitoring equipment and tools to ensure the safety and comfort of your pet.
We carefully examine each pet prior to surgery. Anesthetic drugs are individually selected for the pet based on their age, breed, medical history, and the procedure that will be performed. We require that every patient have pre-anesthetic blood tests to evaluate their internal organ function to ensure that the pet is a good candidate for anesthesia.
Before surgery, your pet will be examined and anesthetics will be hand-selected depending on your pet’s breed, age, health, and other factors. Blood tests will also be done before any anesthesia is given to confirm that your pet’s liver and kidneys are functioning properly and that your pet is a good candidate for anesthesia. Our staff will ensure that we have the most up to date contact information on file when you drop off your pet.
During surgery, we have a medically trained staff member solely keeping an eye on your pet’s vitals. Their main priority is monitoring your pet’s blood pressure, heart rate and rhythm, respiratory functions, body temperature, and maintaining proper oxygen levels for your pet.
Communication is an important part of the surgery process. We will keep you fully informed about your pet’s surgery, progress, and recovery. If necessary, the comprehensive pain management plan may include at-home pain medication to keep them as comfortable as possible. Our staff will walk you through every step and explain everything you need to know for post-surgery care at home.
Please give us a call if you have any specific questions regarding procedures or surgery offered at our facility.
